Lakehead University, Thunder Bay Campus, invites applications for a teaching-focused tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences / Department of Psychology. Applicants with teaching interests and training expertise (i.e., graduate teaching, clinical training/supervision, and research supervision) in any area of clinical psychology are encouraged to apply. The academic rank of the appointment will be commensurate with the qualifications of the successful candidate. The position will commence on August 1st, 2025.

The successful candidate is expected to support a spectrum of primarily graduate clinical courses (including clinical supervision at the Lakehead University Psychology Community Clinic) and select undergraduate courses. Additionally, the candidate is expected to actively contribute to the scholarship of teaching and learning as well as participate in departmental administrative service activities such as curriculum development and other administrative committee work associated with the clinical program.

The Department of Psychology is located on both the Thunder Bay and Orillia campus with this position being located at the Thunder Bay campus. Thunder Bay is located on Lake Superior in beautiful Northwestern Ontario; home to affordable living; thriving food and arts communities; and four-season, world class outdoor recreation (https://vimeo.com/484127771). The Department offers arts and science undergraduate programs, graduate programs in Psychological Science (MSc and PhD), MA Clinical Psychology, and CPA-accredited PhD Clinical Psychology programs at the Thunder Bay campus and an HBA psychology program at the Orillia campus. The Clinical Psychology program provides generalist clinical training and has over 40 students completing MA and PhD degrees. There is a new on-campus Psychology Clinic for student training, and longstanding relationships with community organizations where students complete advanced placements. 

The successful candidate will:    

  1. Have completed a PhD in clinical psychology from a CPA- or APA-accredited program.
  2. Be registered or eligible for registration in Clinical Psychology with the College of Psychologists and Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CPRO).
  3. Show commitment to the scientist-practitioner model.
  4. Demonstrate educational leadership and a commitment to the pedagogical advancement of psychological training, including experience with clinical supervision;
  5. Have demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses broadly related to their area of expertise and have evidence of an effective teaching record.
  6. Be able to contribute to the service and administrative activities of the clinical program, the department, and the university; and,
  7. Demonstrated commitments to equity, diversity, decolonization, inclusion, belonging, and social justice.
