The Faculty of Environmental and Urban Change at York University invites highly qualified applicants for a Sessional Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream position in Cities, Regions, Planning. This is a Contractually Limited Appointment (CLA) to the teaching stream for a one-year term to commence September 1, 2025.

This position consists mainly of teaching courses in the Cities, Regions, Planning undergraduate program, as well as Co-op preparation courses. The courses that would be taught by the successful candidate (course load 3.0) will be:

Candidate Qualifications:

  • Degree: PhD or PhD near completion by the appointment’s start in Urban Studies, Planning, Environmental Studies, Geography, or a related field.
  • Teaching:
    • A record or evident promise of excellence in teaching and dedication to students (e.g. teaching accomplishments, pedagogical innovations, student and peer evaluations in introductory level courses related to cities, regions, and planning; Familiar with experiential education missions; Exposure to current (theoretical) debates/issues in the international field of planning, urban and regional studies).
    • Experience with multi-day, out-of-town filed trips is required.
    • Experience with work-integrated learning, co-op, and experiential education is preferred.
